A Carriage House Escape

Soothing neutral hues, soft lighting and natural materials create an oasis of calm and comfort in this former carriage house on Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire. Built to compliment the main house across the street, the carriage house not only provides guest accommodations, but also serves as a place for the family to relax after working in the extensive gardens which surround the property. An adjacent garage stores their collection of exotic cars so they are conveniently close to this special pastime.

The colors chosen throughout the space echo those found in the gardens. Various floral fabrics on rugs, shades and furniture reinforce the connection to the outdoors. Grasscloth on the bathroom walls brings texture and is a soft reminder of the natural world, while the tile floor, with its stone pattern, is a nod to the indigenous rock of the Granite State.
